Today after work, I went for a hike/run on a new trail. It was refreshing and my body was happy. When I got home I cooked up a some veggies and made a taco bowl. I have been craving a chipotle style burrito bowl so I decided to make them on my own at home. There is a recipe idea in the kitchen section of my blog, check it out! (:
I have been experimenting with my food intake the last few years now and I have found that a mostly vegan diet has worked for me physically, mentally and for my digestion. Everyone's body processes foods differently. Hence some peoples reactions to foods, allergies, and digestion issues. The trick is, we don't know what our body individually needs, unless we are committed to finding out. There are so many ways to find out what your body does and doesn't need. For starters, pay attention to the things that are uncomfortable about your daily life, do you have stomach issues, head aches, skin issues, etc. Researching why these things are bothering you, is often times more helpful than a doctor could be, since these symptoms are so common for SO many different diseases as well as minor illnesses. Studies show that the majority of illnesses and issues are related to diet, level of physical activity, as well as mental wellness or being in alignment with yourself. Food can be a main component in throwing off our natural alignments and it doesn't help that so much of our food is processed.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: One of my very best pieces of advice and I know there are many others out there that would back me up on this, or that I am backing up (since they've been around longer than me) is to EAT ORGANICALLY AS POSSIBLE. It is possible to eat entirely organic if you commit to it. It is a commitment to yourself as well as to the protest against all corporations that process our food. If you do not support pesticides and animal torture, than you should quit giving those companies your money, bottom line.
Now, a lot of people, when they hear me say this, they think it automatically means vegetarian. You can still eat meat and animal products, while eating organically. Buying locally laid eggs, grass fed beaf, non-hormonogienized dairy and meat products, etc. Looking for the USDA stamp and actually reading ingredients helps ensure you are choosing the right options for you and the environment. The organic lifestyle is more about working towards saving our bodies and our planet than it is about not eating meat. If your body processes meat and you feel healthy and happy with eating it, then eat it... but eat it responsibly, moderately and give your money to the right companies, all the while taking better care of your own machine.

I choose not to eat meat for many reasons. One in being, my body doesn't process it well. I feel sluggish and bloated when I eat meat. And often times can't stay away from the toilet after I've eaten it. I haven't had meat in my diet for a while now (I have lost track of time) and my digestion issues have improved massively. This was the next step I took, after going full organic, in finding out how to make myself feel lighter and healthier. Once these issues, from not eating non-organic processed foods and meat, went away, I was able to clear away the fog and get a closer look into my body and how it functioned. Since I have been feeling much healthier, I am able to feel when something unhealthy that my body doesn't like, enters it much more easily. This is when I began to cut down on dairy and coffee. Dairy is something I still have in my current eating style, but in very small amounts and only a couple times in a week. This choice has reflected in many of my recipe posts, with vegan cheese especially. I have felt another change in my digestion as a whole and also have noticed my skin clearing up. I am digging this change, but always day dreaming about cheese. It gets easier with time since I am seeing clear results. There are days coffee does not affect me and others where it makes me ill. I choose to stay away from it now, but will have a cup a couple times a week as well, I don't think coffee is unhealthy, but the caffeine affects my moods in ways that I don't feel are healthy for my personal life. This is another change that hasn't been easy, but has been worth it to avoid the afternoon crashes or the shakes half way through my mornings.
With all of this being said, I am working towards a more raw and suitable eating lifestyle each and everyday. A lifestyle that I choose to make because I listen to what my body tells me. We each have our own choice of what we put into our bodies and I can tell you, it is a lot of fun learning what makes mine happiest! I encourage you to begin to experiment with your eating habits, cut things out... be patient enough to find out how your body is changing from your healthier, non-processed diet.
